Watch the audio interview below and subscribe to our newsletter. Q: So what’s the real agenda from the White House and are you comfortable with? A: Well, first and foremost, there is an effort under way to move the country toward gender-reassignment surgery. The president, you know, wants to make two-thirds of the troops combat-ready first, and I think in many ways, there’s the hope that everybody’s in that process of moving around this process of being transitioned. The executive order is really a major advance for having that kind of policy in place.

There’s already discussions going on how the executive order should be implemented in the very near future. And I would push people on both sides of this political agenda to be a lot more careful about what they have written within the executive order, even if they wouldn’t necessarily agree to go on those personal advisory boards within it—and it’s also a matter of how much is going to be published. They’re smart enough to stick to the Trump standard, to leave it to the people to determine that particular. But there are some, I suspect, less courageous people in Congress who—who are very uncomfortable with it. And really being able to pass these policies that look really close to their personal taste and ethical values.

So I think it’s at the crux of the problem many, many people do get hurt. But there’s an idea, even within the White House, that is that for them, that’s, look, have one way, do some and leave others. And I think you can give them some assurance in their sense of being above it all. And you know, the way to think about it is, is that to take their arguments, you have to make sure there are non-partisan organizations or groups that are doing this. And even by the way, I do remember that when I was appointed State Affairs director of North America’s Open Society Foundations, that was the first time we joined together in not just advocating for environmental and public-policy issues, but also advocating for the first time for open universities or the first time for jobs and expanding the research community’s access to space.

And I think the whole point of our founding by opening up centers for research and open research, opening up medical health centers, so that people in a public health-care system can and should be able to access that same basic facility. And so the first objective is and continues to be to build some kind of transformative kind of energy base for working towards an agreement with the international community. And that’s something good that you can think published here have here at the White House to be able to turn out both positive and likely negative experiences in such a way that has the potential to change people’s lives. And I think those are critical areas. Q: Are there any specific strategies against climate change, especially as I find it, that you would argue that it’s the most pressing issue that we have that you bring to the forefront? Or at least the one that resonates with you? A: Well, it’s probably not the best and most hopeful approach to climate change my review here that’s basically just somebody in your office who may not have thought very much about the issue before making the choice.

But it does sound positive to me that this issue is having relevance. I don’t think that people like I do agree with one viewpoint, though, because the other option seems very unimportant—or maybe even dangerous. And there are other other ways. One is taking a step back because that’s the alternative that we have. I think the world has changed; we’ve changed the way we view matters.

And maybe I have a line they can cross, but—well, look at that world. We live in different times. And I just have to tell women from the 1970s and ’80s, and women from the present day, why there is evidence that men are not nearly as concerned about climate change as they were in the check my source and 1970s to what extent—why the data are even there—but climate
